What is in this range
Nine Asian greens — four pak choi, two tatsoi, komatsuna, choi sum and tokyo bekana. Four mustard greens running from mild to wasabi-hot. Baby-leaf spinach and beet greens. Lacinato kale, collards, Chinese celtuce, the Japanese Hakurei salad turnip, Italian Romanesco, parsnip and an open-pollinated Brussels sprout.
Fast enough to sow all winter
Most of this range is ready in three to six weeks. Tokyo Bekana gives baby leaf in 18 days, Tatsoi Koji F1 in 25, Komatsuna and Choi Sum in 21. Sow a short row every two to three weeks from October and you will be cutting salad continuously until February. Very little else in a Pakistani winter garden turns around this quickly.

Colour in the salad bowl: Red Cloud F1 tatsoi, Scarlet Frills mustard, Bull’s Blood beet greens, Shikibu purple pak choi.

Hill gardens only: Parsnip Warrior and Brussels Sprout Roodnerf need a long cool season — excellent in Murree, Swat or Quetta, difficult in the plains.
When to sow across Pakistan
Punjab plains (Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan) late September to February. Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar September to January. Karachi and coastal Sindh October to December. Murree, Swat and Quetta February to April. The fast greens can be sown in succession right through the season.
Frequently asked questions
Will American vegetable seeds grow in Pakistan?
Yes. These are cool-season crops and a Pakistani winter suits them very well — in many cases better than a North American one, because they mature before the heat arrives.
Can I grow them in pots?
Nearly all of them. Baby-leaf greens need only 15 cm of soil depth, so a grow bag or a wide pot on a balcony is enough.
What does cut and come again mean?
Sow thickly, cut the leaves two centimetres above the crown, and the same plants regrow for a second and third harvest. Most of this range does it.
Is the seed non-GMO?
Yes. Every variety in this collection is non-GMO.
