Named for what it tastes like. Brassica juncea with broad, bright green leaves cut into deeply scalloped frilly margins — soft, tender, with real loft in the bowl — and a clean wasabi-like heat that hits the nose rather than the tongue. Baby leaf at 21 days, full size at 40–45.

Growing Guide for Pakistan
- Sowing time: Punjab plains (Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan) late September to February; Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar September to January; Karachi and coastal Sindh October to December; Murree, Swat and Quetta February to April. Fast enough to sow every two to three weeks right through winter.
- Method: Sow 6 mm deep for baby leaf, 13 mm deep for full-size plants.
- Germination: Seven to ten days; ideal soil temperature 7°C to 24°C.
- Spacing: Baby leaf: rows 5 cm apart. Full size: sow 7 cm apart, thin to 30 cm, rows 45 cm.
- Harvest: Baby leaf from 21 days; full plants at 40–45 days.
- Sun and water: Full sun to light shade. Consistent water; a dry plant turns harshly hot.
Among the last mustards to bolt
In the breeder's winter trials Wasabina was one of the very last mustards to run to flower. For a Pakistani garden that means the longest useful season of any leaf in this range — sow once in October and you will still be cutting in February.
Sow it thickly on purpose
Plant close together and the leaves stay baby-sized while the stalks lengthen, which makes cutting far easier and gives a tidier bunch. Use it raw with grilled fish, or stirred through rice at the last moment.
