Growing guide for Pakistan

• Sowing time: Punjab plains (Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan) mid-September to late October in nursery trays for the main winter crop, and again late January to February under cover for a spring crop. Karachi and coastal Sindh October to November. Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar February to March. Murree, Swat, Abbottabad and Quetta March to April.
• Method: Sow in trays, 5 mm deep, in a light seed mix. Do not direct-sow — tomatoes transplant better than almost anything else.
• Germination: 5–10 days at 21–27°C. Keep the tray warm, not wet.
• Transplanting: At 4–5 true leaves, 45–60 cm apart. Bury the stem deep — the buried section grows extra roots and the plant stands up to Punjab wind far better.
• Sun and water: Full sun, at least six hours. Water at the base, never over the leaves, and water evenly — swinging between dry and flooded is what splits fruit and causes blossom end rot.
• Harvest: about 90–120 days from transplant — the longest season in this range, so start it early. Pick at first blush and finish indoors if birds are a problem.
• Start early: It needs a long run. Sow in September in the plains so it fruits before the spring heat, or February under cover in the north.
• Distinct from Red Brandywine: Pink is the famous flavour strain; the red is a different, earlier selection.

Yes. Use a pot of at least 12 inches (30 cm) with drainage holes, one plant per pot, in full sun. A balcony in Lahore or a rooftop in Karachi works well.
