Growing guide for Pakistan
- Grow it in a pot. This is a warning rather than a suggestion: mint runs underground and will take over a bed in a single season. A pot, a drum, or a container sunk into the ground keeps it where you put it.
- When to sow: February to March, or September to October, in the plains. Avoid sowing into the peak of summer.
- Sowing: The seed is very fine. Scatter it on the surface of moist compost and press down — do not bury it. Keep it damp and shaded until it germinates, which can take two to three weeks. Patience at this stage is the whole trick.
- Position: Morning sun and afternoon shade in the plains. Full Lahore sun in May will scorch it.
- Water: Mint is the one herb that likes damp feet. Never let the pot dry out.
- Harvest: Pinch the growing tips often and it bushes out instead of running to a single stem. Cut the whole plant back hard when it flowers and it comes again.

Will this grow in a pot?
Yes — and you should. Mint spreads underground and will take over an open bed, so a 12-inch (30 cm) pot is the sensible home for it.
How many seeds are in the packet?
Enough for a home garden bed or a run of pots. Sow a few more than you need and keep the strongest seedlings.
