How the self-watering system works

The pot is made of two parts. The coloured upper chamber holds your plant and potting mix. The transparent lower chamber is the water reservoir, with a side window so you can see the level at a glance. A cotton wick runs between the two. Capillary action moves water upward on demand, which means the roots are never sitting in standing water and never bone dry — the two commonest ways indoor plants die.

Which plants suit this pot

How to use it

1. Thread the wick through the base of the upper chamber so roughly half of it hangs into the reservoir.
2. Fill the upper chamber with good potting mix and plant as normal.
3. Water from the top once, thoroughly, to settle the soil and prime the wick.
4. Fill the reservoir through the side opening. Top it up whenever the window shows it running low.

Rinse the reservoir every few weeks to keep the water fresh.

Care and durability

The plastic is reusable and long-lasting — wash it, replant it and use it again season after season. Wipe with a damp cloth; avoid harsh solvents. Suitable for indoor use and for sheltered outdoor spots such as balconies and covered verandas.
