Ranunculus Bulbs — Mixed Colours

Buy ranunculus bulbs online in Pakistan and grow the flower most people mistake for a rose. Each bloom carries dozens of paper-thin petals packed into a perfect dome, in colours from pure white through apricot to deep scarlet. On 30–45 cm stems they are among the finest cut flowers you can grow in a Pakistani winter, and one tuber produces bloom after bloom from February into April.

Growing Guide for Pakistan

• Soak first: Three to four hours in room-temperature water. The dry tubers look like tiny dead claws and swell dramatically. Plant the same day.
• Which way up: Claws pointing down. This is the single most common mistake with ranunculus.
• Plant: October to November across the plains; November in Karachi.
• Depth and spacing: 5 cm deep, 20 cm apart — they make wide leafy plants.
• Flowers: February to April.
• Height and sun: 30–45 cm, full sun, free-draining soil. Never let them sit in waterlogged ground.

• Which way up do the claws go? Points facing down into the soil. Planted upside down they either fail or come up very late.
• How long do the cut flowers last? Eight to twelve days, longer than most winter flowers. Cut when the bud is soft and showing colour.
• How many flowers per tuber? A well-grown tuber gives eight to twelve stems over the season if you keep cutting or deadheading.
• Will they come back? Lift them after the foliage yellows, dry them thoroughly and store cool. They will run again the following winter.
• Are these bulbs or seeds? These are living bulbs, corms or tubers — not seed. They flower in their first season, months sooner than the same plant grown from seed.
• How should I store them before planting? Somewhere cool, dry and dark with air around them. A paper bag in a cupboard is ideal; a sealed plastic bag is not, because trapped moisture causes rot.
