Petunia Explorer Seeds

Grow spreading carpets of colour with Petunia Explorer seeds (Petunia hybrida, spreading type). One Explorer plant can blanket nearly a metre, spilling from hanging baskets, raised beds and wall pots, the closest thing to a flowering ground cover for a Pakistani winter.

Growing Guide for Pakistan

• Sowing time: September to mid-October in the plains; late August to September in Islamabad; late September to November in Karachi.
• Method: Nursery trays in a fine mix. Surface-sow and press in gently; the seed needs light, do not cover.
• Germination: 7–12 days at 22–26°C.
• Transplanting: At the 4–6 leaf stage, 30–40 cm apart, fewer plants cover more ground with this type.
• Flowering: December through April; trim wayward runners to thicken the carpet.
• Sun and water: Full winter sun; spreading types are thirstier than bush petunias, so check pots often.
