Grow your own King of the North bell pepper (Capsicum annuum), the heirloom bred for short, cool seasons. It sets fruit in conditions that stall other bells and ripens to red weeks earlier — which makes it the one sweet pepper worth trying in Murree, Swat, Abbottabad or Quetta, and the earliest picking in the plains.

Growing guide for Pakistan
- Sowing time: Punjab plains (Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan) September to October in nursery trays for the winter crop, and again January to February for a spring crop. Karachi and coastal Sindh October to November. Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar February to March. Murree, Swat and Quetta March to April.
- Method: Nursery trays, seed just covered with 5 mm of mix. Peppers need more warmth than tomatoes to start.
- Germination: 8–16 days at 24–30°C. Slow and uneven below 20°C — be patient, the tray is usually fine.
- Transplanting: At 5–6 true leaves, 40–45 cm apart in rows 60 cm apart. Unlike tomatoes, plant at the same depth they were in the tray.
- Sun and water: Full sun with steady moisture. Mulch the bed — peppers drop their flowers when the root zone dries out or the day goes above 35°C, so get them fruiting before the real heat arrives.
- Harvest: about 57–70 days from transplant, the earliest bell in this range. Cut with secateurs rather than pulling, or you will snap the brittle branches.
- Hill gardens: This is the variety to choose above 1,200 m, where a standard bell will flower and drop without setting.
- Seed saving: Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed from a fully red fruit.

Will this grow in a pot?
Yes. Use a pot of at least 12 inches (30 cm) with drainage holes, one plant per pot, in full sun. A balcony in Lahore or a rooftop in Karachi works well.
