Growing Guide for Pakistan

• Sowing time: October to November in the plains (earlier sowings in hot soil rot); September to October in Islamabad; November in Karachi.
• Method: Direct sow. Soak seed overnight, then plant 3 cm deep, 8–10 cm apart in rows. Give twiggy sticks or netting for support.
• Germination: 7–10 days at 15–22°C.
• Harvest: 60–70 days; pick pods when plump and picking every second day doubles the total crop.
• Frost: Established plants shrug off frost, and cold actually sweetens the peas, a favourite in northern gardens.
• Sun and water: Full winter sun; moderate water, heaviest at flowering and pod-fill.
