Growing guide for Pakistan
- When to sow: February to March in the plains, and again in August for an autumn crop. Karachi can sow from October. It needs warm soil and no frost.
- Sowing: Sow direct, two seeds per station 2.5 cm deep, stations 75 cm apart, thinned to the strongest. Summer squash resents transplanting.
- Soil and feeding: Dig a spadeful of well-rotted gobar into each station. This is a hungry, thirsty, fast plant and it will take everything you give it.
- Water: Generously, at the root. Water on the leaves in Lahore humidity brings powdery mildew within weeks.
- Pollination: If young fruits shrivel at the tip, the female flowers are not being pollinated. Move pollen from a male flower with a brush early in the morning.
- Harvest: Pick small and pick every other day. A summer squash left to grow large stops the plant producing and tastes of very little.

Will this grow in a pot?
Yes, one plant in the largest container you have — 18 inches (45 cm) at minimum. Summer squash is greedy for both root room and water.
How many seeds are in the packet?
