Growing Guide for Pakistan

• Sowing time: September to October in trays in the plains; late August to September in Islamabad; October in Karachi.
• Method: Nursery trays, sown thickly; cover 5 mm.
• Germination: 8–14 days at 15–22°C.
• Transplanting: When pencil-thick, drop each seedling into a 15 cm-deep dibber hole 15 cm apart and water in without filling the hole; the buried stem becomes the white shank.
• Harvest: From about 120 days, through winter into spring; leeks hold in the ground without spoiling.
