NPK Local 1 kg — General Purpose Granular Plant Food for Flowers & Vegetables

What it is and what it does

This is a balanced granular NPK — the workhorse fertilizer that most gardens actually need most of the time. The three letters are the three nutrients every plant uses in quantity:

• N — nitrogen builds leaves and green growth. Short of it, plants go pale and stall.
• P — phosphorus builds roots, bulbs and flower buds, and helps fruit set.
• K — potassium builds strong stems, deeper flower colour, better fruit, and hardiness against heat, drought and disease.

Because it carries all three, it is the sensible default feed for a mixed garden — flower beds, vegetable patches, pots, lawns and young trees all take it.

How to use it

1. Beds and borders — roughly a handful (30–40 g) per square metre, scattered evenly and scratched into the top inch of soil, then watered in.
2. Pots and containers — about half a teaspoon for an 8–10 inch pot, worked lightly into the surface and watered. Repeat every four to six weeks in the growing season.
3. Vegetables — a light band along the row, a few inches away from the plants, then water. Repeat once the crop is properly growing.
4. Lawns — scatter thinly and evenly, then water thoroughly the same day. Uneven scattering gives you a striped lawn.
5. Trees and shrubs — spread at the edge of the canopy where the feeding roots are, not against the trunk.
6. Water every time. Granules only work once dissolved. On dry soil they do nothing and can scorch.

Getting more out of it

• Feed little and often rather than a lot at once. Plants use what they need; the rest washes past the roots and is wasted.
• Never against the stem. Keep granules a few inches clear of stems and trunks.
• Not on a wilting plant. Water it first, let it recover, then feed. Fertilizing a stressed, dry plant makes the damage worse.
• Pair it with organic matter. Granular NPK feeds the plant; vermicompost and neem cake feed the soil. Used together they go much further than either alone.

Can I use it on vegetables I will eat?
Yes. Apply to the soil, water in, and keep granules off the leaves and off anything you are about to pick.

Is it organic?
No. This is a manufactured mineral fertilizer. For organic feeding, use vermicompost, bonemeal or neem cake.

Can I dissolve it in water?
Granular NPK is made to be applied to soil, not sprayed. For a liquid feed use a water-soluble NPK instead.

Can it burn my plants?
Yes, if you overdose it or leave granules against stems and roots, or apply it to dry soil. Stick to the rates above and water in every time and you will have no trouble.

Storage

• Keep the bag closed. Granular fertilizer draws moisture from the air and cakes solid.
• Store cool, dry and locked away from children and pets, and well away from food and seed.
