What is NPK 5-15-45 used for? It is a high potassium water soluble fertilizer for the flowering and fruiting stage. The three numbers are the nutrient percentages: 5 per cent nitrogen, 15 per cent phosphorus as P2O5 and 45 per cent potassium as K2O, giving 65 per cent total nutrient content with no filler. Why is the nitrogen so low? Nitrogen builds leaves. Once a plant has started budding, more nitrogen only gives you a bigger green bush with fewer flowers on it. Holding nitrogen at 5 per cent and lifting potassium to 45 per cent pushes the plant to spend its energy on flowers and fruit instead of foliage. What does it actually do? Potassium at this level increases bud count, deepens flower colour, holds flowers on the plant instead of letting them drop, sizes and sweetens fruit, and hardens the plant against heat, drought and disease. The 15 per cent phosphorus supports the root growth and bud formation that heavy flowering depends on. How much do I use? Dissolve 5 grams, roughly one level teaspoon, in 1 litre of water and apply to already moist soil at the base of the plant every 10 to 15 days. For a foliar spray use 3 grams per litre and spray in the early morning or after sunset. For taller plants a simple rule is one teaspoon per foot of plant height in 1 litre of water. When should I start using it? At the first sign of flower buds, or as fruit begins to set. Do not use it during the seedling or early leafy stage. Which plants benefit most? Tomato, chilli, capsicum, brinjal, okra, gourds, strawberry, roses, hibiscus, bougainvillea, jasmine, lemon, guava and mango. Which plants should not get it? Leafy vegetables such as palak, methi, coriander and lettuce need nitrogen rather than potassium, so use a balanced or high nitrogen feed on those instead. Is it safe on food crops? Yes at the stated dose. Leave at least 7 days between the final application and harvest, and wash produce before use. One hundred per cent water soluble with no residue, suitable for watering cans, drip systems and foliar spraying. Store sealed in a dry place. Roman Urdu: kaliyan zyada, phool gehre rang ke, aur phal bara aur meetha. Household and home gardening product. Net weight 1 kg.
