What is NPK 20-20-20? A fully water soluble balanced plant food carrying equal nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium at 20 per cent each. Balanced means no single part of the plant is favoured over another, which makes it the safest choice if you keep only one fertilizer at home. What does each nutrient do? Nitrogen drives leaves and shoots, phosphorus builds roots and flower buds, and potassium hardens the plant while improving the quality of flowers and fruit. At 20-20-20 the plant receives all three together in equal measure. When should I use it? Through the active growing stage, from a few weeks after transplanting until buds begin to form. Once a plant is flowering or fruiting heavily, switch to a high potassium feed such as NPK 5-15-45 for noticeably better flower and fruit results. How much do I use? Dissolve 2 to 3 grams, about half a level teaspoon, in 1 litre of water and apply to moist soil every 7 to 14 days during growth. For a foliar spray use 2 grams per litre in the early morning or evening. Reduce or stop feeding through peak summer heat and winter dormancy, when plants are not actively growing and cannot use it. Which plants can I use it on? Everything in a home garden: vegetables, seasonal flowers, roses, fruit plants, herbs, lawns and indoor foliage plants, in pots, raised beds and borders. Why choose water soluble over granular? It dissolves completely, so nutrients reach the roots with your next watering instead of sitting on the soil surface waiting to break down, and nothing is left to clog the watering can or rose. Is it safe on vegetables? Yes at the stated dose. On leafy crops water the soil rather than the foliage, and rinse produce before eating.
