Growing guide for Pakistan
- When to sow: September to November, or February to March, in the plains. It establishes best in mild weather.
- Sowing: Very fine seed. Scatter thinly on the surface of a free-draining mix, press down and barely cover. Keep it just moist — thyme seedlings rot far more easily than they dry out.
- Soil: Poor, gritty, sharply drained ground. Rich soil and heavy manure give you soft growth and weak flavour. This is a herb that rewards neglect.
- Water: Sparingly once established. Let the surface dry between waterings — overwatering kills more thyme in Pakistan than heat ever does.
- Position: Full sun. It takes the summer heat happily once its roots are down.
- Harvest: Snip sprigs as needed, never more than a third of the plant at a time. Trim lightly after flowering to stop it going woody in the middle.

Will this grow in a pot?
Yes — and a pot suits it better than a bed in most Pakistani gardens, because you control the drainage. Use 30 cm and a very gritty mix.
How many seeds are in the packet?
Enough for a home garden bed or a run of pots. Sow a few more than you need and keep the strongest seedlings.
