Digitalis Seeds

Grow first-year-flowering Foxgloves with Digitalis Dalmatian seeds. Tall spires of spotted-throat bells rise above winter beds by spring, cottage-garden drama that suits Islamabad and northern Pakistani gardens especially well. Note: all parts are ornamental only, not edible.

Growing Guide for Pakistan

• Sowing time: September in the plains and Islamabad; October in Karachi. Dalmatian flowers in its first year from an early sowing.
• Method: Nursery trays. Surface-sow, do not cover; the fine seed needs light.
• Germination: 14–21 days at 18–20°C.
• Transplanting: At 4–6 leaves, 30 cm apart; give each plant room for its rosette.
• Flowering: March to April spikes, up to a metre tall; stake in windy spots.
• Sun and water: Morning sun or dappled shade; even moisture.
