Daffodil Bulbs — Mixed Colours

Buy daffodil bulbs online in Pakistan and grow the flower that tells you winter is ending. Narcissus opens trumpet-shaped blooms on straight 35–45 cm stems in golden yellow, soft cream and white with orange cups — the first strong colour in the garden each February. They are also the least demanding winter bulb we sell: no soaking, no lifting, no staking, and completely untouched by the stray cats, squirrels and rodents that dig up other bulbs, because every part of a daffodil is bitter to them.

Growing Guide for Pakistan

• Plant: Mid-October to end of November across the plains. Islamabad, Murree and the northern belt can start from early October.
• Which way up: Pointed tip upward, flat root plate down. Daffodil bulbs are unmistakable, so this one is hard to get wrong.
• Depth and spacing: 10–12 cm deep and 10–15 cm apart — deeper than most bulbs. Shallow planting is the usual reason daffodils flop over in flower.
• Flowers: February to March, holding three to four weeks in a Pakistani spring, and longer in a cool year.
• Height and sun: 35–45 cm. Full sun in winter — at least five hours of direct light for straight stems and full-size trumpets.
• Water: Keep the soil evenly moist from planting until the leaves yellow. Stop watering once the foliage dies back or the bulbs will rot through summer.
• Soil: Anything that drains. Daffodils fail in heavy, waterlogged clay more often than from any pest or disease.
• After flowering: Cut the spent flower but leave every leaf until it turns yellow. That is when the bulb is feeding itself for next year.
• Lifting: Optional. Lift and store dry after the foliage dies down, or leave them in the ground in Islamabad and the north, where the summer is kinder.

• When exactly should I plant daffodils in Lahore? Mid-October to late November. Wait for night temperatures to settle around 15–18°C; planting into hot September soil invites rot before the roots ever form.
• Will they come back next year? In Islamabad, Murree and the northern areas, yes — they naturalise and multiply. In the hot plains most gardeners treat them as a one-season bulb, because Lahore, Multan and Karachi summers are too warm for the bulb to rest properly.
• Can I grow them in pots? Yes, and they are excellent in pots. Use one at least 25 cm deep, plant five to seven bulbs together for a full display, and make sure the drainage hole is open.
• Do animals dig them up? No. Every part of a daffodil is bitter and toxic, so cats, squirrels and rodents leave them alone. This is why they are the safest bulb for an open front garden.
• Are these bulbs or seeds? These are living bulbs — not seed. They flower in their first season, years sooner than the same plant grown from seed.
• How should I store them before planting? Somewhere cool, dry and dark with air around them. A paper bag in a cupboard is ideal; a sealed plastic bag is not, because trapped moisture causes rot.
