Grow your own cat grass (Avena sativa, oat grass). Sweet tender blades that cats seek out to chew — it helps them bring up fur and keeps them away from your houseplants. Sown in a pot on a windowsill, it is up in under a week and ready to nibble in two.

Growing guide for Pakistan
- Sowing time: Any month of the year — this is grown indoors in a pot, so the Pakistani season is irrelevant.
- Method: Fill a shallow pot or tray with 5 cm of moist potting mix, scatter the seed thickly across the surface, and cover with 5 mm more mix.
- Germination: 3–7 days at 18–25°C. Keep the surface damp but not standing in water.
- Where to put it: Bright indirect light indoors — a windowsill out of harsh afternoon sun. No feeding needed.
- Ready to use: Ready for the cat in about 10–14 days, once the blades are 8–10 cm tall. Set the pot down where the cat can reach it.
- Keep it going: One tray lasts two to three weeks of nibbling. Sow a fresh tray every fortnight so there is always one coming on.
- Also for dogs: Dogs graze on it too, and for the same reason.
- Why cats want it: The fibre helps clear swallowed fur. A pot of this usually stops a cat chewing the ornamentals.

Will this grow in a pot?
Yes. Use a pot of at least 12 inches (30 cm) with drainage holes, one plant per pot, in full sun. A balcony in Lahore or a rooftop in Karachi works well.
How many seeds are in the packet?
